Julie Barton makes it her mission to never stop learning. She is a current Ph.D. candidate in management and public service and holds two Master’s degrees. She holds a Master of Public Affairs degree from the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and a Master of Liberal Studies degree from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul with a concentration in gender studies, sociology, and cultural anthropology.

Her Bachelor of Science degree also came from Metropolitan State, in Business Administration. She is passionate about human rights and equality issues. In her spare time, she serves as Board Chair for Renewing the Countryside, a Twin Cities-based nonprofit dedicated to conservation and farming issues, and is on the Board of Directors of Somali Family Services of the Twin Cities. Professionally, she is a member of the American Planning Association and the Professional Convention Management Association. Julie somehow manages to find time to work in her garden and is a proud member of the Minnesota State Horticultural Society. Her motto is “Be kind, fight injustice, and use education to build your world.”
